Senior Dietitian

1. Why become a dietitian? If not a dietitian would you have been in any other profession?

Since high school, I was amazed by the fact that dietary regime plays an important role in the management of chronic illnesses. From then onwards, I knew that I wanted to be a dietitian.

Upon graduating from high school, I was given 2 choices, to study medicine at University of Maranatha in Indonesia or to study nutrition/dietetics at University of Otago in New Zealand. I chose the latter …

2. What’s one goal you hope to achieve as a dietitian?

To find a balance between enjoying one’s food and keeping body and mind healthy.

3. How do you cope with the patient’s emotional state? Does it affect you as well?

I give my best at work (in helping patients) and keep up to all challenges at work as well. Once I am out of office, I give my best attention to the family.

4. What would you say to someone who would like to volunteer or counsel with CanHOPE?

They need to have a passion in ‘serving’ people (patients and family members) and providing individualized and best service for them at varying circumstances.

CanHOPE is a non-profit cancer counselling and support provided by Parkway Cancer Centre, Singapore.
